Insights gained by climate information offered in CLIMTAG are translated into strategic adaptation plans for the medium and long term that should lead to effective and evidence-based concrete adaptation measures and to integration of strategic adaptation planning in sectoral policies. Clarity on barriers for effective climate adaptation and for the acquisition of International Climate Finance, as well as recommendations to overcome these barriers are also given.
Adaptation planning
For the longer term, adaptation pathways consistent with different potential outcomes will be defined to allow for a range of desirable policy strategies.
Accessibility to climate funding
Investing in adaptation activities is often difficult for African stakeholders when sufficient financial means are lacking. In that case, international climate finance can be supportive to implement adaptation. However, accessing climate funding programs can be challenging without the right technical, institutional, social and economic support. With this study, iPropeller/KPMG aims to unravel the obstacles African stakeholders encounter in their quest for climate adaptation finance, what their needs are towards adaptation funding, and which role an agro-climate information dashboard like CLIMTAG can play in improving access to climate finance mechanisms. The study has two key research objectives:
- To identify the obstacles and needs of 21 African countries to access international climate adaptation financing mechanisms; and To articulate insights and recommendations regarding climate adaptation finance in the context of the demonstration cases and business planning within the KLIMPALA project.
- To articulate insights and recommendations regarding climate adaptation finance in the context of the demonstration cases and business planning within the KLIMPALA project.
